"Throughout his compositional career Maestro Montsalvatge devoted a fair amount of effort to choral music. An example of this is the choral versions of his Cinco canciones Negras. But in my opinion the high point of his production for choir is Pianto della Madonna, a model of expressive, torn music, with a language that balances tradition and modernity."
