"Colien's Guitar Album, subtitled "Spanish and Portuguese music of the 20th century for ancient and medieval female poetry", is a compilation of short works aimed at middle and higher level students. Xavier Montsalvatge wrote for this album is entitled Adagietto spirituale, based on a poem by Izumi Schikibu, who lived during the 11th century. The composer dedicated this work to Cecilia Colien Honegger. How to consume my life? / I always wonder / Without stopping”. The score, written without a preset time signature, is characterized by arpeggiated movements based on chords unfolded in white or black notes, framed by figurations in both quaver and semiquavers, and always with an ascending script that gives the works a constant sensitive and refined character."
