"In the score, the composer has proposed this time, rather than approaching the strictly religious or liturgical meaning of the Requiem Mass, to extract from its theme the deepest and most vivid expressive feeling between pathetic and empyrean, using only the orchestra, dispensing of vocal polyphony and applying only in the last bars the epilogical words intoned by a soprano: Requiem Aeternam dona eis Domine Amen."
