Comments
"The Santander International Festival celebrated its 50th anniversary in the summer of 2001 and for this important occasion José Luis Ocejo, director of the festival, requested some new works from different authors. At the most solemn moment, that is, the closing dedicated to the memory of Ataúlfo Argenta, before the Ninth Symphony, maestro Myung-Whun Chung conducted the Orchestra of the Santa Cecilia Academy of Rome in Montsalvatge's latest creation: Sinfonietta-concerto, for flute and string orchestra coloured by a piccolo, harp and percussion, dedicated to the magnificent virtuoso from Santander, Jaime Martín. Throughout the four movements - precise and precious - we are presented with a living art, full of Mediterranean light, measured in the forms and the affectivity they contain in an incisive and sometimes somewhat melancholic way. Sinfonietta-concerto is music of the kind I call "dateless", I mean: alive today, live tomorrow and live a century from now."
Enrique Franco, 2001.
