"In Metamofosis de concierto Montsalvatge could not avoid the evocative temptation, but he imposed the mastery of his own distances above abstract sound sensations. We again find in him resonances of the first Antillean voices: Canciones negras, Cuarteto indiano, a search of habaneras from Costa Brava. The sound of "distant life" constantly comes to the fore, animated by the plastic force driven by the percussions, while the composer keeps a strict watch on the melodies, lest let them deviate from the path of easy delight."
