"Sortilegis, dedicated to the Orchestra of Cadaqués and was composed on commission by the Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea (Center for the Promotion of Contemporary Music). This piece was a compulsory work for the finalists in the First International Conducting Competition of Cadaqués. It was meant to be a challenging work, with changes of meter and dynamics during the course of the piece, for those young conductors who entered the competition in the hopes of winning the prize. “Sortilegis” was premiered at the XXI Music Festival in Cadaqués on 5 August 1992."
