"Xavier Montsalvatge, always interested in the world of plastic arts and familiar with the seductive image of the Andalusian city of Granada, took as his first contact the contemplation of the wonderful stuccoes of the Alhambra. "Montsalvatge described the third movement Para la exaltación del Minotauro as an "obsessive, dynamic and sonorous gradation based in part on the zapateado form". Through this allusion, Montsalvatge wanted to relate the Minotaur of the Labyrinth more to the conception of the Iberian bull, than that of the bull of Greek mythology."
