"Here is a luminous, Mediterranean and therefore resoundingly beautiful dodecatonism."
Jose Casanovas.
"Xavier Montsalvatge, always interested in the world of plastic arts and familiar with the seductive image of the Andalusian city of Granada, took as his first contact the contemplation of the wonderful stuccoes of the Alhambra. However, he never thought of making a descriptive work; on the contrary, the small anecdote passed from the still of its creative capacity to the transcendence of a musical structure, yes, linked to the ancient myth of Theseus, Ariadne and the Minotaur."
Francesc Bonastre, 1992.
"Montsalvatge described the third movement Para la exaltación del Minotauro as an "obsessive, dynamic and sonorous gradation based in part on the zapateado form". Through this allusion, Montsalvatge wanted to relate the Minotaur of the Labyrinth more to the conception of the Iberian bull, than that of the bull of Greek mythology."
Douglas Riva, 1999.
