Meanwhile, on the other hand, there were the pioneers of the Generation of '51, who, despite some producing works in the 1950s, mostly developed their compositional tasks during the developmentalist era. Among them, we find names like the eclectic Xavier Montsalvatge. With a highly personal style, he managed to create interesting and groundbreaking aesthetics that, at the very least, did not resonate with an audience unaccustomed to such innovations. Films like The Glass Cage (1956), District Fifth (1957), both by director Julio Coll, with whom he formed a productive and quite interesting duo. But other productions such as In Cold Blood (1960) by Juan Bosch also captured that distinctive style of Montsalvatge. On the other hand, José Solá introduced jazz into films like A Glass of Whisky (1958) and The Crows (1961), also by Coll. This was the emblematic Barcelona School, which was characterized by a greater specialization in noir films, in contrast to the Madrid school, which maintained a broader variety of productions.
