"It was an idea of ​​the painter and scenographer Xavier Coll, based on Federico García Lorca's comedy Amor de Don Perlimplín con Belisa en su jardín. This work soon became an obsession for Mompou, who proposed to Xavier Montsalvatge to collaborate with him. Montsalvatge would take responsibility for the elaboration of the themes written by Mompou, for their orchestration and for the composition of some other dances to complete the action. This is how the work progressed between the two musicians, in a hurry, as always, but without more difficulty."
