Comments

"Montsalvatge uses an intelligible musical language, but with continuous references to modernity; the use of dissonances in a tonal atmosphere is the means by which the composer wants to express his awareness of contemporaneity, a contemporaneity that is certainly complex because it includes both the enjoyment of bel canto as the reality of the music of our time; this necessary and conscious link is not only seen and felt, but is the key to the analysis of the opera's composition."

Francesc Bonastre, 2002.
