"This work was written at the initiative of Alicia de Larrocha to be performed as an encore, four hands, together with Joaquín Achúcarro in the tribute that was offered to Victòria de los Ángeles in December 1998 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid. It is based on the traditional Catalan theme "El cant dels Ocells", which Victoria has sung so many times."

"It was the Catalan pianist, Alícia de Larrocha, who gave a tribute concert to her friend the soprano Victòria dels Àngels. For this short work, Montsalvatge once again used the popular Catalan song "El Cant dels Ocells" that so many times Victoria of the Angels had sung with splendid musicality."
