Version of the three movements of the Sonata concertante for cello and piano.
Cadenza by Xavier Turull.
Comments
"It corresponds to the version of the 1971 Sonata concertante for cello and piano from which the first movement has been deleted, commissioned by the Decena de Música de Toledo. The dialogue between violin and piano is rich in expressive nuances thanks to a extreme use of the resources of both instruments."
Xosé Aviñoa, 1999.
"This work was born when the violinist Xavier Turull asked our composer for a version for violin and piano of the Sonata concertante for cello and piano. Montsalvatge, in this new version, excluded, for writing reasons, the first movement, which was thus replaced by a large-scale cadenza made by Xavier Turull and which precedes the end of the last movement. It is in this rondo that Turull's cadenza is located, written in andante-recitativo tempo and which later enters a colorful vivace with sonorities characterized by staccato."
Lluís Trullén, 1999.
