Comments
"It corresponds to one of the most fruitful time periods of Montsalvatge. Following the classic scheme of the variation, the first movement presents an andante semplice confined to the violin, a cantabile theme of romantic proportions. there follows a brief Leggero that modifies the initial subject recurring to virtuosity derived from quick ascending and descending rhythms with a frantic character. In the Solenne that follows, where the theme returns to its stately mood, violin and piano exchange protagonism along a very personal treatment of harmony. Then comes a Tempo de siciliana in which, after a short piano introduction, a dialogue with a contemplative character begins between the two instruments in which the theme is broken apart. The piece concludes with a very lively Deciso in which again the theme, in the violin part, appears again with its fullness."
